Hi! Thanks for navigating to the CPC welcome page. We hope that you find the info you need here. If not, drop us an email and let us know how we can do better.
We are going to assume that you landed here from the LinkTree accessed from the QR code in the seat in front of you. Here are some things you might want to know.
Our Worship
Please relax during worship! You won’t do anything wrong. There are times to stand and times to sit, but that will be made pretty clear. And if you can’t stand, don’t! We have people who choose to sit and it’s okay. No one is going to judge you for it.
And if you’d rather not sing, but just listen and follow along, that’s fine. The same is true for the prayers and creeds we recite. We respect your right to assess what we are doing before you participate.
Where’s the Bulletin and Offering Plate?
We have no paper bulletin—we stopped that with COVID. But if you like to have something to look at through the service, you can access a virtual bulletin here.
If you are concerned about what you should put in the offering plate, you needn’t be. We have no offering plate (another COVID casualty), and if you are a visitor, you are our guest anyway, and we don’t want you to feel any obligation to give.
However, if you would like to give, here is a link to help you do that. Alternatively, there is a basket beside the double doors in the back.
Children at CPC
But what should you do with your children? At CPC we love kids and don’t believe that they are a bother in worship. Feel free to keep them with you through the entire service. However, we do have some options available for parents of smaller children.
Through the double doors and to the right we have a nursery for children ages up to four. You can take your child there at any time, and there is a special space there for nursing mothers if you need that.
After the children’s message and just before the sermon, children in VPK through 2nd grade have the option of joining our gifted teachers for children’s church in the brick building next door. (For the safety of our children that building will be locked during the service. Please see a deacon standing in the back if you need access.) All of our volunteers have been background checked, but if you’d like more info on our safety policy you can ask Elizabeth, our Children’s Ministry Director.
The Lord’s Supper
At CPC we believe that the Lord’s Supper (sometimes called “communion” or “the eucharist”) is a joyful part of Christian worship which we celebrate weekly. If you are a Christian, we are happy to have you join with us even if you are not a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. If you have any uncertainties about whether you should partake or not, seek out the pastor
or one of the elders. They’d be happy to answer your questions.
If you are not a Christian, to partake of the supper would be to express a faith that you do not embrace. That would not be fair to you, or good. So, feel free to stay in your seat. We don’t mind. We are glad to have you as our guest.
Sunday School
Some ask why we start our services at 9:30. The primary reason is our kids. We believe that children move better from a structured activity—worship—to a less structured activity – Sunday school – rather than the other way around. So unlike many churches in the area, for us worship is first and Sunday school follows. Please feel free to hang around for it, for your children or for yourselves.
Our worship service usually ends sometime between 10:45 and 11:00. After that we break for conversation over coffee and cookies or muffins served outside under the overhang. At about 11:15, our classes start. Most classes meet in the brick building. If you need directions for you or your children, ask. We’ll be happy to direct you. Sunday school will end at noon.
Well, that is about it. Again, if you need more info, don’t hesitate to email us, or, if you like, to ask us in person!
Thanks for dropping by.
