Randy was born in Loveland, Ohio: the youngest of four children and the son of a carpenter and a school teacher. Nurtured as a child in the Loveland United Methodist Church, he lived in Loveland until leaving for college. Since Loveland was a Cincinnati suburb, he became a great fan of the Cincinnati Reds.
Randy attended Michigan State University receiving a degree in English Education. While in college he came to appreciate the depth and breadth of Reformed preaching at the East Lansing Trinity Church, where he and his wife Barb were married in 1978.
Graduation opened the door to a teaching career in the greater Cincinnati area, a career cut short by a desire to prepare for a (presumed) missionary call. This led the Greenwalds to St. Louis, Missouri, and four wonderful years studying at Covenant Theological Seminary and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Still thinking that God would have him eventually serve in a missionary position, Randy assumed the pastorate of Hope Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, Florida, where he began to favor the Tampa Bay Rays. Randy pastored Hope Church for nearly 25 years. In that time God taught him much about ministry and even more about God’s unfailing and unfathomable love and grace. This is the message he brings to Covenant Presbyterian Church and to the Oviedo community.
Through it all, God has blessed Randy and Barb with six children and twelve grandchildren.
Randy is also the author of the book, Something Worth Living For: God, the World, Yourself, and the Shorter Catechism, published by Christian Focus Publications and to be released in the fall of 2020.”
